Frequently Asked Questions

Ask a Question
  • Hi Guys, These racks look awesome - and probably what I am looking for on my new camper van. I usually travel with 2 x 10' SUPs which are 31" wide. Could this system secure the 2 SUPs on the side of my van at speeds of up tp 60MPH? Would I need 1 or 2 racks to achieve this? Cheers Mark

Thanks for reaching out — stoked you’re considering these for your camper van setup!

The SeaSucker Suction Mount Rack is rated to hold up to 3 surfboards or paddle boards at speeds up to 70 mph, as long as all suction cups are properly engaged and the boards are strapped securely. So in terms of speed, your 60 mph target is within the manufacturer’s tested range.

That said, those tests are primarily based on roof mounting. For side-of-van mounting, the boards are exposed to much more side wind and turbulence. With two 10’ × 31” SUPs, we strongly recommend using two full rack sets (front and rear positions) instead of just one. This fore-and-aft support keeps the boards stable, minimizes flex, and greatly reduces the chance of shifting under highway crosswinds.

    Best practices for side-of-van mounting:

    • Mount only to a smooth, clean section of the van’s side panel, and make sure each cup is fully pumped (no orange showing).

    • Position the racks so the boards ride as low-profile as possible against the van to reduce side drag.

    • Use redundant strapping to secure the SUPs tightly — ideally running an extra strap around a fixed van anchor point as backup.

    • Re-check adhesion and strap tension at fuel or rest stops, especially if conditions change (heat, rain, or long drives).

With this setup, many customers have successfully carried SUPs on the side of their vans at highway speeds.

Super easy rack

I purchased the SUP/surfboard rack. It works perfectly. It’s also easy to take off so that you can keep it in your car while you’re in the parking lot and then quickly assemble it and ready to put the surfboard back onto your car. I love it.

working great

They work great, easy to put on and take off, and the gauge will let you know if the suction is loosening up.
