Frequently Asked Questions

Ask a Question
  • will this rack work for wakeboards?
    + Show Answer

The flush to the wall design of this rack should make it a decent choice for wakeboards as well. However, personally I think it would be better suited for a board that's still going to be used more or less frequently.

For more of a semi-permanent fixture and a specialized display piece a few customers have tried this  Clear Vertical Wall Rack made of Acrylic and seemed to be stoked with the results. 🤞🏼🤙🏼

  • Will this rack hold boards with a lot of rocker?
    + Show Answer

Boards can really vary when it comes to entry and tail rocker, so this is a great question. If you plan to store the board with the deck facing out then it likely won't be an issue.  However,  if you plan to showcase the bottom of the surfboard then keep in mind that there is only a 2" gap between where the wall is and the inside part of the board.  You can measure this by laying the board on a flat floor with the deck facing down then measure up to the middle point of the board.   If that gap is 2" or below then you should be good to go with this rack.
However if that gap is over 2" or if you want to air on the side of caution then we recommend going with this rack that has a 4" gap shown here.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Hello! I'm an interior designer in South Carolina decorating a beach home for my client. We'd like to use the "Clear Surfboard Wall Rack | Flush To Wall" product for our project and are installing blocking behind the drywall currently. Can you tell me how far apart I should place these mounts for a 6' board?
    + Show Answer

Regarding spacing of where to align the racks with the board can vary depending on the shape and rocker of the actual surfboard.  With that being said a good rule of thumb is around ~1/3 in from each end point of the surfboard.

The real priority here is mounting the surfboard rack directly to the studs in the wall as this will provide the most rigidity/stability.  Determining where the client wants the board located in the room in question, finding the respective studs for this location, and then making sure the surf racks are spaced out enough so that the board will not teeter would be a good order of operations.

One thing to note: Most of the time we want the surfboard exactly level to the floor and not the racks themselves (often determined by the surfboard stringer, or wooden line in the middle of the board, on most, but not all surfboards).  So, with taking the surfboard shape and outline into consideration you may find that the racks themselves will not be level with the floor, as the surfboard shape will determine where the racks need to be installed in the vertical orientation.
Laying the board and racks out on the floor prior to installation should help get an understanding of how to vertically align the racks on the wall.

As far as blocking: I would refrain from mounting the racks directly to the blocking itself. Although, it may provide enough stability, the rack was not really designed for this, but rather to be mounted directly center to the vertical (load bearing) studs.

  • Would these work to mount a board diagonally at the angle of a stairwell? Trying to find a solution for something like that for my 7ft board.
    + Show Answer

Unfortunately, these racks aren't meant to be mounted at an angle going down/up a staircase (i.e. 45 degrees).

You might find success instead using the vertical-mount acrylic racks, if proper alignment of the board with the studs in the wall can be achieved.  But again this rack is also not designed for this specifically.

  • How far does the mount project from the wall?
    + Show Answer

The outermost part of the rack comes off the wall ~5", allowing it to maintain the lowest of profiles for surfboard wall racks.

  • I want to mount a fish surfboard, no fins flush to the wall. Which rack should I go with?
    + Show Answer

If you want to mount a fish shape with no fins flush to the wall you actually have two options:

    Vertically Mounted:
This rack comes with 3-pieces (sides arm and base) and all necessary mounting hardware.

    Horizontally Mounted:
This rack comes with 2-pieces and all necessary mounting hardware.

Best racks - great for small spaces.

These racks are minimal in appearance, functional and perfect for small/tight spaces. I live in a big city where space is limited and these racks get my boards up and out of the way (from rascal ding-prone children) but display my quiver quite nicely on the wall when they're not in the water.

I can't recommend these enough. Easy to install with adequate directions. I'll keep buying them.
very satisfied.
